Just finished updating my biography of one of music’s most iconic female singers. While Carly Simon is never mentioned in the same breath as Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, or Joan Baez, she is directly cited by present day artists like Taylor Swift and Tori Amos as a direct influence. Her songs, which were insightful, lushly produced, and impeccably arranged, are among the best songs of the seventies. She also had the ability to cross musical genres. There is a reason why she is in the Songwriters Hall Of Fame and she should not be held responsible for the hype surrounding her personal life and choice of lovers.
